141 E trinty Pl, Decatur

I’m excited to share an update on a project that has been in the works for quite some time. Vera Hellcat Construct has teamed up with some truly wonderful people to bring new life to 141 East Trinity Place in downtown Decatur—a building you might remember as the old Greene’s family candy store.

This project has been a collaborative effort from the very beginning. I’ve been fortunate to work alongside Will Scruggs, architect Eric Rawlings, and Luis and Yanin Fernandez (owners of Mojito’s restaurants), as well as many other talented and dedicated folks. Pulling the funding together has been no small task, but Will and the team have done a tremendous job of making it happen. Our partners at Tandem Bank have also played a huge role, and they’ve proven to be fantastic allies in moving this vision forward.

Today we hung banners to announce what’s coming, and we’re now just about a week away from receiving our permit. Once that’s in hand, renovations will begin in earnest.

Here’s what you can look forward to in the space:

  • Clave – a new restaurant from Luis and Yanin Fernandez, set to open this spring.

  • A jazz club – not only adding to Decatur’s music scene but also aiming to strengthen the jazz landscape across the Southeast. The vision is to create an intimate, high-quality sound space that can anchor a regional tour for fantastic acts seeking the right setting.

  • A music store and educational space in the basement – creating a hub for learning, creativity, and community.

  • A recording studio – designed to support the music venue and provide additional services to be announced.

If all goes according to plan, we’ll be celebrating the grand opening by May. This project has been a long time coming, and I’m grateful for everyone who has played a role in making it real.

Stay tuned—I’ll be sharing more updates as we get closer.
