Odd Windows: Lessons from an A-Frame in Progress

More: A-Frame
The guys built a series of 5 ladders with adjoining temporary supports spanning the length of the house (60’) to the peak of the roof to hoist the ridge beam. And with ropes a strength pulled the center LVL into place. A crane would certainly have been easier but given grade and space a crane wasn’t going to work. This was pretty spectacular to watch.

A-Frame - YOung HArris, GA
A friend of mine had the fantastic idea to build an A-frame a while back. She asked if I’d build it—and I said yes. I’m going to document some of the process here and share photos since I don’t have a social media presence.
We started with the foundation, and the walls are fairly stout—thanks to my friends at Koblasz & Kennison Engineering in Atlanta for the design work. Since the site has a sharp grade on the mountain, a slab foundation wasn’t an option. Perimeter walls were a must. The total foundation length is 60 feet, and the wall height comes to 33 ½ feet.
