Odd Windows: Lessons from an A-Frame in Progress

We’re in the middle of building an A-frame in Young Harris, and one of the standout features is a massive wall of windows—about half of which are triangular. It’s beautiful, but requires some extra love.

Here’s a hard-earned rule of thumb: never order oddly shaped windows before the structure is actually framed. I don’t care how detailed the plans are—real-world framing always shifts slightly. And with something as unforgiving as a triangular window in a centerpiece wall, you can’t just “trim it out” or hope no one notices. Precision matters.

Another tip? Avoid ordering custom windows from big box stores. They’ll be enthusiastic to make the sale, but the follow-up and attention to detail often fall short. The money you think you’re saving upfront will likely get eaten up later—in delays, adjustments, and lost time.

Just my two cents, but if you're building something special, go with your gut, wait for framing, and work with people who understand what you're trying to create.
